Before the City Council tomorrow evening, are 6 resolutions which provide for non-compliance waivers on tax abatements.
The Fort Wayne City Council meets this evening with full agendas in both the Committee and Regular Sessions. The Agendas may be downloaded here, while the ordinances up for introduction may be downloaded here. There is a Prior Approval on the agenda regarding Harrison Square sewer work along Ewing Street to the tune of $830,259.97. The Council will again take up the City’s proposed changes to the Residential and Commercial Codes.
A courtesy public hearing was held at the Fort Wayne City Council meeting this evening. I spoke, followed by John B. Kalb and Jeff Pruitt. The only citizens to speak, or really even follow the entire process -- and we’re all bloggers. I’d also mention that I know Mike Sylvester has followed this as well, but wasn’t able to make it last night. Above is the video clips of our talks.
There is a City Council meeting this evening at 5:30 pm at the City-County Building. There are two items of importance on the agenda, well, they are all important, but two more so than the average resolution or ordinance. The Fort Wayne City Council will take up Councilwomen Liz Brown and Karen Goldner’s proposed changes to the Tax Abatement code. The code hasn’t seen changes since 2000 and is expected to be updated in keeping with the current Council’s wishes on awarding abatements. The public is invited to make comments in what’s being called a “courtesy public hearing”. Councilwomen Liz Brown and Karen Goldner’s proposed changes to the City Tax Abatement code was introduced to the City Council in ordinance form last evening. The above video is from the introduction during the Regular Session of the Fort Wayne City Council. A second video is included of Councilwoman Goldner discussing what happened and what is next.
The Fort Wayne City Council meets tomorrow at 5:30 pm in room 128 of the City-County Building. The agenda may be downloaded here. There is one public hearing scheduled: A second series of videos has been added to AFW on YouTube concerning Tax Abatements. This series is tracking Councilwomen Liz Brown and Karen Goldner’s proposed changes to the City’s Tax Abatement ordinance and procedures. Today’s videos feature Elissa McGauley who is an Economic Development Specialist with the City of Fort Wayne. She discusses Tax Abatements from what they are to how compliance is monitored. Below is the play list for the videos. Clicking play will play all videos in order. A list of the videos is included below. Councilwomen Liz Brown and Karen Goldner are in the process of gathering public input about their proposed changes to the City’s Tax Abatement Ordinance and procedures. Next week, I will be sitting down with an official from the City to look at the current tax abatement process and procedures. The goal of this, will be a primer of sorts for citizens and interested parties explaining what tax abatements are, how they work and what the process is like. I am proud to introduce a series of posts concerning the changes to the Tax Abatement policies and ordinances for the City of Fort Wayne. These changes have been proposed by Councilwomen Liz Brown (R-At Large) and Karen Goldner (D-2nd). Liz and Karen have graciously agreed to let AFW follow the progression of these changes into formulation of an ordinance and then possibly into law and policy.
