I’d like to report a tree in the middle of Calhoun….” Ok, so I didn’t make the call, but it was still an awesome sight to see! This is the annual Wells Fargo tree sitting in the middle of Calhoun Street shortly before being hoisted onto the walkway between Wells Fargo and the parking garage on the Northwest corner of the Calhoun and Wayne Street intersection.
The Christmas Wreath is now in place on the Summit Building. The annual lighting ceremony for this wreath, the Santa and his Reindeer display on the National City Center and the yet-to-be-placed Christmas Tree at the Wells Fargo Building will be next Wednesday – the night before . . . → Read More: Christmas Wreath In Place An article in today’s Journal Gazette might explain why the displays have been so late in going up this year. It seems that they indeed have switched to LED bulbs and are still waiting for the Christmas Wreath’s new bulbs to arrive. Again, the article was in today’s Journal Gazette and written by Jenni Glenn: Congratulations to Brian Spaulding for correctly identifying Perfection Bakery as the building recently decorated for Christmas. In past years, Perfection has tried several types of Christmas displays. In 2005 and 2006, they erected a huge house on the front of the building. But in 2006, the panels for the display were being set up when gusty winds blew through the area and took the panels down. Last year, a wreath was added on the Sunbeam Bread sign atop the building along with some clear twinkling lights. This year, lights have been installed on the front of the building on the part that has multiply floors. It should be interesting to see how this looks as many lights have been strung. A selection of photos of the display, unlit. The last few years, especially last year, the downtown Christmas displays were in place for a few weeks by this time. Today, the Santa and Reindeer display began going up on the North side of National City Center on Main Street. A selection of photos from the installation. Most of my friends tell me I need to get a life, or that I have way too much free time on my hands to do some of the things with this blog/photography that I do. Well, I have the all time way-too-much-free-time-on-their-hands item for you. The above photo is of a building in the downtown area… This building has a very well known landmark on the roof. (I’ve probably given it away at this point.) The building is one story, except for the middle portion of the building which is multiple floors. On the facade of the building, in the tallest part, Christmas lights have been strung. We’re not just talking one or two strands, we’re talking several hundred. Can you imagine testing those lights looking for a short or burned out bulb? Whew! |
