E-mail from Indiana Senator Tom Wyss:
Wyss participates in national dialogue on counterterrorism, border security
State Sen. Tom Wyss joined other executive members of the Quadrennial Homeland Security Review committee last week in Washington D.C. to review a report on counterterrorism and domestic security management, border security, enforcement of immigration laws and disaster recovery.
Wyss was tapped by the National Conference of State Legislatures – a bipartisan organization that serves the nation’s legislators and staffs – to participate in a comprehensive review of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
“This committee is responsible for a top-to-bottom review of the nation’s homeland security policies, programs and missions and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano will present the final report to Congress by Dec. 31,” Wyss said. “This review is important to DHS because it will help set forth goals, address challenges the department faces and inform homeland security policy for the next four years. A more efficient department can help better serve all Americans and contribute to the security of our nation.”
Wyss, chair of the Indiana Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Transportation and Veterans Affairs, said Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, who represented the National Governors Association, and Trenton N.J. Mayor Douglas Palmer, who represented the National League of Cities, were in attendance.
