Join the Kroger and Scott’s “Great Turkey Escape”
Blood donors can win a Thanksgiving giveawayAs preparations are made to gather with family and friends for the biggest meal of the year, the American Red Cross prepares to help patients in need. This Thanksgiving week you can participate in the Kroger and Scott’s “Great Turkey Escape” at a local donor center and help boost the blood supply. All presenting donors at the Fort Wayne and Lutheran Hospital Donor Centers during the blood drive can enter to win a $50 Kroger/Scott’s gift card and a turkey. One winner will be drawn each day for a total of six winners. You can donate blood and help save lives at one of the following donor centers.
Fort Wayne Donor Center located at 1212 E. California Road (across from the Memorial Coliseum)
- Monday, Nov. 23 – Wednesday, Nov. 25: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Friday, Nov. 27 & Saturday Nov. 28: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Sunday, Nov. 29 (platelet donors only) 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Lutheran Hospital Donor Center located at 7900 W. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 107 (in the South Lobby of Lutheran Hospital)
- Monday, Nov. 24 and Tuesday, Nov. 24: 12 noon – 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, Nov. 25: 6:30 a.m. – 12 noon
- Friday, Nov. 27: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 28: 6 a.m. – 12 noon
- Sunday, Nov. 29: by appointment only
“Blood availability is a preparedness issue,” said Sharyn Whitman, CEO of the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region. “As families prepare their Thanksgiving meal, we hope that they will take the time to donate blood and help ensure that blood is on the shelf, ready and available for patients in need.”
Donors will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite Kroger or Scott’s store as part of the Kroger/Scott’s Challenge. The Dupont Road Kroger won the challenge last year.
How to Donate Blood
To schedule an appointment to donate please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit IndianaOhioRedCross.org for more information. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate.About the American Red Cross
The Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region serves northern and central Indiana and northwestern Ohio, and needs to collect about 500 units of blood a day to meet patient need in more than 60 hospitals. In addition to providing blood to our community, the American Red Cross also provides relief to victims of disaster, trains millions in lifesaving skills, serves as a communication link between U.S. military members and their families, and assists victims of international disasters or conflicts.
