Last night’s Council Call-in show featured Councilman Mitch Harper and his guest, Geoff Paddock, Executive Director of the Headwaters Park Alliance.
A variety of topics was discussed, including:
- Headwaters Park
- Ice Rink opens November 21, 2009 thru February 28, 2010
- Attendance at the Ice Rink
- Headwaters Park Alliance Lease – Geoff thinks the arrangement will continue past 2010
- Not raised rates for skating or festival renting for 5 years
- Flood control aspect of the Headwaters Park project
- Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge
- Impact of new bridge construction on Headwaters Park
- Protection of Clinton Street trees
- Graphic Packaging closing announcement
- Headwaters Park Alliance ready to work with city to preserve the historical aspects
- Erich Kuhne from Fort Wayne/New Haven designed Headwaters Park
- Indiana Political Heroes
- High Speed Rail – Northeast Indiana Passenger Rail Association
- We are the largest city in the state and country without passenger rail service
- There is strong bi-partisan support
- Optimistic it could happen in the next decade or so
- Congressman Mark Souder has been very helpful
- What can local government do?
- We’re gaining momentum
