Press release from the Downtown Improvement District:

    Excellence in Design Awards
Fort Wayne Downtown Improvement District Partners with Local Chapter of American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Architecture and Community Heritage, Inc. (ARCH)

The Fort Wayne Downtown Improvement District (DID) joins with two partners: the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and Architecture and Community Heritage, Inc. (ARCH) to present design and preservation awards at a combined celebration.

2009 is the first year that these three organizations have partnered to recognize good design and historic preservation. The overall goal for the three organizations is to celebrate, and to encourage, community achievements based upon good design principles.

Nominations have been accepted and the winners will be recognized following a reception which will begin at 5:00pm on the second floor of Chase Bank in the AEP auditorium at One Summit Square in downtown Fort Wayne on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.

Those wishing to attend should RSVP Lori Graf at 426-5117.

The Downtown Improvement District will focus on four categories: architecture, landscapes, interiors, and signage/storefronts for its portion of the awards presentation. DID President Rich Davis said, “We want to celebrate the complexity in architecture and design that finds its natural home in the center city.” The awards will recognize architectural achievements which enhance the distinctive character of the urban core, provide standards for design professionals to emulate, and to recognize those enhancements to the landscape and streetscape that make being downtown a more lively, authentic and visually compelling experience.
