Press release from Habitat for Humanity:

Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity Dedicate a New Home in Fort Wayne
Habitat for Humanity® International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans® join together to increase affordable housing in Fort Wayne

(July 28, 2010) – On July 30th, 2010, Anita Craig’s new home will be dedicated. Her new home is a result of an alliance between Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, this alliance has resulted in thousands of decent, affordable homes across the country since 2005. This is the fourth home that has been sponsored in Fort Wayne thanks to its 2.6 million members who own financial products with the organization; Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is able to contribute to the improvement of communities like Fort Wayne. The Thrivent Builds alliance also engages volunteers—members of Thrivent Financial, members of area Lutheran churches and members of the community at large—to work alongside the partner families to build these homes.

The Craig family

The Craig’s family, which includes mom Anita and three children, completed 300 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build it, a basic tenet of Habitat for Humanity. They will also repay the no-profit mortgage over a period of 20 years, illustrating Habitat for Humanity’s objective to give families a “hand up” rather than a “hand out.”

The new Craig family home

The public is invited to attend the dedication of the Craig’s home, at 4pm located at 4826 Warsaw in Fort Wayne. There will be a short blessing of the house and opportunities to tour the house before and after the dedication. For more information about the dedication or about Habitat, please call HABITAT (422-4828) or visit the website at www.fortwaynehabitat.org.
